Natural Chair Invites to Creativity and Comfort Ideas

Designed by Martin Ballendat for Italian manufacturers Tonon, the Up-Chair was updated to a sleeker, more attractive version. This is how design evolves. One chair at a time. Besides offering a comfortable physical touch, its shape and manufacturing story inspires anyone to improve on what exists. From the older aluminum-cast version to this elegant wood or leather version, the manufacturing process and design work only got better. So now the Up-Chair made in Italy provokes you to take a seat and try on the shape, the textures, the size.

“Up-Chair from Tonon is an extremely emotional product. The comfort is also achieved through the use of an innovative manufacturing process of the shell,” designers reveal.

A chair that seems cut in American walnut decorates even an empty room. Following the contours of the design, it completed by innovative armrests in American walnut.

“The material is called FREEFORM ADVANCED, an integral solid-coloured foam, whose molecular structure is very stable and partly self-supporting, that means more flexibility and more comfort as well as lightness to the chair. The shell is available in 10 fresh colors, the metal base is available both matte or polished chrome finish.”

Mantua-based studio ARCHIPLAN completed the renovation of an old barn in Bomporto, Italy. The building had been partially damaged by an earthquake and was in dire need of a contemporary update. Surrounded by abandoned farm buildings and the cultivated fields of the Modena plain, the residence is an oasis of tranquility.
The front of the house is characterized by “a harsh nature, grumpy and unhelpful, which is opposed to a domestic and faithful interior space and a large façade that opens to the endless countryside.” The wooden deck and perfectly manicured lawn extend living spaces, providing opportunities for spending time outdoors.

Minimalism was key to designing a clutter-free and highly functional home. As you step inside, you will be greeted by spacious and airy interiors, thanks to the open plan layout and walls painted in white.
A black bookshelf divides the dining table and the lounge area with TV. This is a perfect spot for late evening family gatherings, and cozy tales around the fireplace. The bedrooms are located upstairs, with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing unobstructed views of the surroundings. Used in abundance, the wood accents create a welcoming feel throughout. Tenement House on the Edge of a Park was an interior design project by Loft Kolasinski, completed in 2016. The original Tenement building, built on an edge of a park in Szczecin, Poland, was completed in 1907.

This renovation utilized the bones of this century old tenement building: the original hardwood floors of the apartment were renovated, and the stucco elements were restored from the original.

To accessorize the restored apartment, the focus was on sourcing European mid-century design. Lighting elements are sourced from Poland, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The bed, created by the interior designers Loft Kolasiński, is made of Oak wood with an oil finish. The living room carpet is a ‘60’s design by Antonin Kybal. The wooden furniture set was created by Grete Jalka. To complete the look, a framed vintage street poster of the movie “Matador” from 1986 leans against the wall.
